Conrad Buff
(1886-1975)
Conrad Buff was an iconoclastic
landscape painter whose work
employed bold colors and emphasized
architectural forms in nature,
becoming increasingly abstract
over time. In addition to his painting, he
illustrated 13 children's books
written by his wife. Born in Switzerland,
Buff immigrated to the United
States at age 18 eventually
settling in Southern California.
He also did a New Deal
post office mural in Manteca,
California.
Oil on board 26" x 38"
Notice a light surface abrasion
at the center bottom of the bush.
What appear as horizontal scratches
are actually light reflection from the
texturizing applied by the
artist to the board in preparation. Frame is
probably original and has minor
dings and abrasions as one would
associate with normal wear...and
loose corners.
